Collecting Action Figures

There is an enormous world of interesting collectibles out there. One of them is Collecting Action Figures, which is a family hobby that the kids, particularly, could engage in and re-invent or create themselves by prompting imaginative play and role playing.

The craze of collecting action figures became popular especially during the year 1980s and early 1990s. This hobby was influenced by a series of superhero adventure movies, comic books and television shows like the GI Joes, Rambo, Lord of the Rings, Superman and Batman, Star Wars and many others.

Action figures come in different sizes such as 3 inches, 3 ¾ inches, 12 inches and 18 inches, but the most ordinary size is 7 inches. Most action figures have binary points on their joints and some are loaded with accessories that include guns, knives, weapons, interchanged heads, interchanged hands, masks and others.

Best Selling Action Figures

As far as I am concerned, Star Wars was the first series of adventure movies which introduced several action figures that gave fun and excitement as well as stirred the creative minds of both the youngsters and the adults. They enjoy the specific characters of superhero figures which can fly, have super strength, fight bad people and save the Earth from destruction by scrupulous people. Apparently, the most popular and best selling characters of the Star Wars include the white Darth Vader, Storm Troopers, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, C3PO, R2D2, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin, an Imperial Officer, Yoda, Princess Leia and Battle Droids.

Other Best Selling action figures are Friday the 13th Jason Voohries whose knife and a removable hockey goolie mask are his signature accessories, the Transformers which started off as toy cars when bought but would transform into amazing alien robots, the famous Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, Batman and Bat-mobile, including Robin and the villain Joker, Superman, Spiderman, and the popular Master of the Universe action figures.

My most favorite action figure, however, is the GI Joe which comes in variations and with the most accessories. As a child I used to spend hours with them, always changing their accessories or arranging them in a long horizontal or vertical line combat position or placing them in different strategic locations imagining them as guards around a small model United States combat aircraft given to me as a birthday gift by my parents.
