When preserving your family heirlooms, protect them from threats such as acidic materials, bugs, improper handling and storage, then follow the guidelines:

Paper

- Unfold or unroll paper documents to eliminate creases which may damage the fibers of your paper heirlooms.

- Protect your papers from the acids in your storage area. If your paper documents are already brown and brittle. You can prevent further damage by keeping the document away from other papers and preserving the information on it(photocopy it onto archival papers).

Textiles

- Clean textiles with vacuum cleaners, instead of using dry cleaning chemicals which may harm the fibers.

- Protect Textiles from pests such as moths, bugs, carpet beetles and mice.
